The Independent Living Team can provide you with independent advice and support to understand the Self-Directed Support (SDS) options. An Independent Living Officer (ILO) can support you to manage your Direct Payment if you choose this option. One to one support from an ILO is available offering as much, or as little, as you need, on an ongoing basis.
The Independent Living Team works closely with other LCiL services. We can refer you to the Grapevine disability information service or peer support service for information, advice and support on a range of subjects.

Accessing support from the Independent Living Team
If you live in the City of Edinburgh, East Lothian, West Lothian, or Midlothian council areas, you can refer yourself to the Independent Living Team (ILT) or be referred by a council worker, or another organisation.

We can support people who receive Council funding, Independent Living Fund Scotland (ILFS) funding, funding from other sources and people who privately fund their own care.

ILT is a small team and we receive a large number of referrals. You may be placed on a waiting list for allocation of an ILO for ongoing support. We are available for one-off enquiries and questions related to SDS and direct payments through a duty system.
