Volunteers Week 2022

Published: June 2, 2022

This week we are proud to be celebrating Volunteers Week 2022 (1 June – 7 June).

At LCiL we are lucky to have a dedicated group of volunteers including our Champions, Peer Facilitators and Board Members who choose make use of their skills and expertise by gifting their time to support the mission and aims of our services and the Independent Living Movement in Scotland.

Despite an extremely difficult and challenging period over the last year through the ongoing COVID-19 Pandemic, our volunteers have chosen to continue to support us in our mission to fight for the right for disabled people to live independently and take control of their own lives.

Volunteers with LCiL have significant impact both within our services and in the wider community. By “telling it like it is” LCiL Champion Volunteers share their lived experience of independent living, self-directed support, LCiL and its services, disability rights and the social model of disability to:

  • raise awareness and understanding
  • act as role models
  • work as co-production partners.

Peer Facilitator volunteers help support our monthly Peer Support Groups across Edinburgh and the Lothians, providing invaluable facilitation support in groups side by side with our Peer Support and Learning Team.

We are incredibly proud of the achievements and impact our dedicated volunteers have had and continue to have as a powerful voice within everything we do.

Thank you! From everyone at LCiL
