  • Wednesday: 3:30pm to 7:30pm

  1. About the Role

We are looking for a caring, reliable and committed Personal Assistant/ Support Worker to join a small team supporting an autistic young person through a bespoke home-schooling programme.

This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference by supporting the development of independence, communication, learning and everyday life skills.

The role involves working closely with the young person to support their educational programme and wider personal development, helping them to achieve individual goals and progress towards Highers National 2 qualifications through a structured home-based learning approach.

  1. Key Responsibilities
  • Supporting the development of life skills and independence.
  • Assisting with the use of the communication device Proloquo2Go.
  • Supporting participation in community activities and visits.
  • Assisting with personal care when required.
  • Supporting engagement with a home-school learning programme.
  • Helping the young person work towards Highers National 2 outcomes.
  • Implementing positive behaviour support strategies.
  • Using positive reinforcement approaches to encourage learning, communication and independence.
  • Playing with him and siblings and encouraging play and interaction
  • Working as part of a supportive and collaborative team around the child.
  1. Training and Support

No previous experience of the specific approaches used is required, as full training will be provided.

Training will include:

  • Use of Proloquo2Go communication systems.
  • Positive Behaviour Support.
  • Positive reinforcement techniques.
  • Autism-specific support approaches.
  • Personal care.
  • Community-based support.
  • Educational support and learning activities.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is patient, caring and enthusiastic.
  • Has a genuine interest in supporting autistic children and young people.
  • Is willing to learn and undertake training.
  • Can work independently and use their initiative.
  • Is reliable, consistent and committed to building a positive working relationship.
  • Has good communication and interpersonal skills.
  1. Important Information

This is a permanent position, and we are seeking someone who is looking for a long-term role. Please do not apply if you are looking for short-term or temporary employment, as consistency is important for the young person being supported.

This job may interest some with psychology background or working in a care role specifically with young children
