Job reference: JL CG

Area: City of Edinburgh
Working pattern: Part-time
Closing date: November 24, 2025
Rate of pay: £13 per hour

I am an 83-year-old man living with my wife who is my main carer. I am a retired academic in electronical and mechanical engineering with a wide range of other interests in arts and music to name a few! Due to various cardiovascular health issues and type 2 diabetes, I have poor mobility and my mental health is also impacted. I now require support in every areas of my life.

We are urgently looking for a PA to provide 10 hours of weekly respite care so that my wife/main carer can take regular break from looking after me. The post would mostly involve befriending, assisting me with social activities both at home or in the local community e.g. going for a coffee and generally be keen to engage in a good blether!

Person specification:

Considering that the purpose of the post is to provide respite for the main carer, you must be able to work on your own initiative once familiar with my routine. Additionally, there may be occasional times when I need assistance with personal care/toileting, I am therefore looking for someone who is an experienced care worker, able to provide person-centred support with respect for my dignity.

Good communication skills are also essential and an outgoing personality with a good sense of humour would be an advantage.

The successful applicant must be PVG registered or expected to do so when offered the job.

Car driver preferable but not essential.

Hours and rate of pay:

Shift pattern: 10 hours flexibly worked throughout the week (2-3 hours per day) Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday or Sunday. Working days can be negotiated.

Hourly rate: £13 per hour.
