£15.50 per hour  |  12, 18 or 24 contracted hours per week  |  12-hour shifts

About the role

We are looking for friendly, reliable Personal Care Assistants to join a small, supportive team providing one-to-one support to a Clinical Research Scientist with Muscular Dystrophy, who uses a powered wheelchair, to live independently in his own home in Musselburgh.

This is a varied, one-to-one role supporting both personal care and everyday life – at home, out and about, and with occasional social activities. There is no travelling between clients.

No previous care experience is necessary – attitude, reliability and finding the right fit are more important. Full paid training and ongoing support are provided.

The role includes supporting someone who enjoys theatre, films, cafés, exploring new places and spending time with family, so it suits someone who is friendly, adaptable and happy to be part of day-to-day life.

Hours, shifts and rota

Choose a 12, 18 or 24-hour-per-week contract, worked as 12-hour shifts on a predictable 4-week rolling rota:

  • 12 hours/week: one 12-hour shift each week.
  • 18 hours/week: one 12-hour shift some weeks and two shifts in others (averaging 18 hours/week over the 4-week rota).
  • 24 hours/week: two 12-hour shifts each week.

For the right person, two consecutive 12-hour shifts can be combined into a 24-hour shift, giving you more days off.

The rota is provided in advance so you can plan ahead. Shifts may include days, nights, weekends and public holidays. Your preferred working pattern can be discussed at interview.

What you’ll do

  • Provide support with all aspects of personal care.
  • Assist with daily living and household tasks.
  • Support independent living and community access where required.
  • Drive the employer’s adapted vehicle as needed.
  • Work as part of a small team providing 24/7 support on a planned rota.

What we offer

  • £15.50 per hour
  • Choice of 12, 18 or 24 contracted hours per week

  • Option to work some consecutive shifts as a 24-hour shift, by agreement

  • Optional overtime opportunities
  • Full paid training and ongoing support
  • A relaxed and comfortable working environment with Wi-Fi, food and drinks provided during shifts
  • One-to-one role with one employer – no travelling between clients

About you

You will be:

  • Reliable, conscientious and respectful of privacy and independence
  • Friendly, adaptable and able to work calmly as part of a team
  • Comfortable supporting someone with physical care needs
  • Willing to learn and follow agreed support routines

Essential

  • Full UK driving licence required – an adapted vehicle is provided, so you do not need to use your own car.
