We are looking for 1 or 2 reliable people to provide respite care for our adult daughter who has learning disabilities and autism.  The job is based in Broxburn.

The candidate must be female (*GOR,) with an appreciation of the lifestyle a youngish adult wants to live. You will also be dependable, responsible, punctual and fun to be around. It is essential that the candidate have a full, clean UK driving licence and is willing to drive our daughter’s automatic motability car.  You must also be a member of the PVG scheme or willing to join (the employer will cover this expense.)

Flexibility is essential as days may vary, but this will be arranged by mutual agreement, to fit around other commitments.

Note from our Daughter –

Hi, I’m a 35 years young (not old) female who loves K-pop and other crappy pop music (Mum’s words), scary movies and ghost hunting, going to concerts and musicals/shows. I enjoy crafting, especially colouring in, visiting castles and other historic places and basically having a laugh.

So you must be able to enjoy all these activities with me and not be scared of anything spooky!

I just want to have fun but Mum said I also need help to stay focused and on track (not good with time), help with food prep and encouragement to eat healthy, help to keep on top of my housework, reminded to take my meds, oh and I have 2 cats so you can’t be allergic to them or not like them as we’ll be taking care of them too. I also need help having a bath as I can’t wash my own hair and hate water on my face, oh and you’ll need to blow dry my hair for me too (it’s short so no hairdresser skills required).

I can get really anxious around loud noises especially dogs barking and I have a phobia of balloons and flying insects (all of them), so I need reassurance and help to avoid them.

I can throw tantrums if I don’t get my own way or if things change unexpectedly so you will need patience and ability to calm me down.

If you’re interested in providing Respite Care while having a fun time and can commit to a full week and 5 weekends a year, then this could be the role for you.
