We are looking for a kind, reliable and mostly fun and energetic person to look after our 16-year-old son for up to 6 hours every fortnight on a Saturday and/or Sunday. Additional hours can be offered during school holidays.
Our son is autistic and has learning disabilities. He is also profoundly deaf (and non-verbal) and his language is British Sign Language (BSL) so a minimum of BSL Level 2 (even if under completion) is preferable. Additional training in BSL can be offered as continuous development.
He loves to communicate and engage with the people around him and he loves to “chat”, well… sign!
Our son is a wheelchair user, but he has some mobility and can be encouraged to walk for very short distances/periods of time, under supervision.
He is also entirely tube fed so competency in tube feeding is a plus but not essential as training can be provided. Personal care is also required.
Our son has many autistic behaviours that require a calm and consistent approach. Despite this he is quite cheeky and has a great sense of humour and working with him can be very rewarding. He enjoys outings to go swimming, visit fairgrounds, and he loves trains and escalators!
This role is perfect for someone who has some previous experience working with learning disabilities and is keen to expand their knowledge and make a difference in a young person’s life.
We live in Edinburgh in the EH7 area and would require references and a PVG (we will pay this expense) and are looking for a ‘soon as possible’ start.
Payment £18-£21/hour dependent on skill, experience and any relevant qualifications.
