Part-time – zero hours contract. There will be a range of shifts available on a week-by-week basis, including some evenings and weekends.
Purpose of Post: To be part of a team providing full time care, companionship and socialization to a 60-year-old man with young onset dementia, enabling him to participate in activities, and to assist the household with day-to-day tasks.
Main Tasks
- Care and Companionship including
- Excursions, walks, visits to museums, art galleries, etc.
- Assisting to participate in appropriate activities, with clubs and activities provided around the city.
- Helping with company and conversation at home, encouraging activities to maintain interest and socialization and fitness.
- Taking him to the gym, swimming, cycling or walking
- Ensuring he takes appropriate food and liquid and care as required.
- Light shopping and meal preparation when required.
- Other tasks as reasonably requested by employer.
Hours and rate of pay: This is a zero-hours contract. All hours are variable each week depending on needs and availability. £13.50ph payable on the last Friday of the month through BACS.
Person specification
- Basic experience of care to an adult would be an advantage but not essential.
- A flexible and relaxed approach, good sense of humour.
- reliable and flexible.
- Capable of helping the gentleman in a wide range of activities – both physical (e.g inside and outside – gym, walking, swimming, racquet sports etc …) and social / mental (eg conversation, films, games, music, integration into local groups and enabling him to stay connected to current friends).
- A driving license is not necessary, but if the successful candidate is prepared to drive for excursions, all (pre-arranged) expenses would be met.
This role is likely to develop depending on the successful candidate’s skills and interests as well as the relationship that is established. As this is a progressive disease, a willingness to establish a long-term relationship is preferable, and additional hours over time will reflect this.
No formal qualifications are required.
