The client is a bright, resilient, fun-loving and mischievous 8-year-old girl who lives with a rare, life-limiting neurological condition, autism and intellectual disability. She is non-verbal, very friendly, and loves the outdoors.

Her condition affects several aspects of daily life, including mobility, communication, feeding, medication and breathing. With the right support, the client can live comfortably, with dignity, confidence, and joy, within her family home.

You do not need prior experience caring for the client’s specific medical conditions. Full training will be provided, and a family member will always be present to support and guide you. You will be welcomed as a valued part of a family-led care team.

The Role

We’re seeking kind, patient, adaptable, and energetic Personal Assistants/Life Enabling Support Workers to provide support at home and in the community.

The role is centred on companionship and life-enabling support, assisting the client to live as independently and joyfully as possible. Duties include:

  • Supporting feeding, hydration and medication through a Mickey button (gastroenterostomy)
  • Assisting with personal care
  • Encouraging play, outdoor activities and social interaction
  • Supporting after-school routines and bedtime preparation
  • Working collaboratively with family members and other team members

good sense of humour, warmth and reliability are essential. Most importantly, you should have a genuine love of fun and working with children.

Main Working Pattern & Shifts Required

Required Days: Monday & Tuesday

  • Morning: 7:30 am – 9:30 am / 10:00 am

(Supporting the client to get ready for school, including feeding and meal preparation)

  • Afternoon / Evening: 3:00 pm – 7:30 pm

(After-school support including feeding, play, relaxation and bedtime routine)

Additional Availability (Preferred – Weekends)

  • Saturday & Sunday: 9:00 am – 7:30 pm

Hours:

  • 8–12 hours per week (based on Monday & Tuesday support)
  • Additional hours available for weekend cover if desired
  • Two positions available, suitable for students or those seeking fulfilling part-time work

Ideal Candidate Profile

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is naturally warm, kind and patient, with a calm and reassuring presence
  • Is reliable and committed, understanding the importance of consistency in a child’s routine
  • Has a good understanding of autism, including behaviour, communication differences and the importance of structure
  • Is confident in following a structured support plan and adapting to the client’s individual needs
  • Is playful, energetic and engaging, able to bring fun, creativity and positivity into daily activities
  • Can remain calm under pressure and respond sensitively to changing needs
  • Is observant and responsive, able to notice small changes in behaviour or wellbeing
  • Works well as part of a team alongside family members, while also using their own initiative
  • Is open to learning and developing new skills, particularly around clinical care
