The aim of the job is to provide assistance required by the employer, a disabled man with long-standing memory difficulties, moderate dementia, epilepsy, night-time incontinence, and some minor balance and visual problems resulting from a head injury.
A Personal Assistant (PA) is required to help the employer remain living in his own home for as long as possible, despite his severe memory problems, and growing dementia.
You will be required to assist with the following tasks, usually without close supervision. The post holder will therefore need to be able to work on their own initiative whilst at the same time be respectful of the employer’s wishes.
The Post
The post is initially for 9 hours per week, consisting of 3 hours, 10am to 1pm, on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Sundays, beginning mid-December 2025.
There may be more hours available by negotiation when other PAs are unavailable.
The rate of pay will be £17.80 per hour.
Regular Tasks
- Assistance to go out for a walk. This may be in the local streets, or you can drive the employer to a nearby park, or to a community venue. The aim is to provide some fresh air, exercise and change of scene. Social interaction is a bonus
- Laundry
- Prepare a microwaved ready-meal for lunch and prompt eating
- Communicate with the employer’s other care-team members as necessary via WhatsApp
Other useful Tasks
- Gentle encouragement, and assistance where needed to perform personal care tasks such as showering and shaving
- Delivering and collecting dry-cleaning
- Household cleaning tasks
- Occasional light shopping
- Any other reasonable task as required
Please be aware that the employer’s dementia means it’s likely his needs will change as the months go by. Communication between the employer’s sister and the PA is therefore essential.
