Job advert for Disability Information Officer

Disability Information Officer

  • Full time (35.75 hours, Mon – Fri)
  • Hybrid: Office in Edinburgh
  • Salary: £25,500
Closing date: Monday 26 August at 5pm

Post Objective:

As part of the Disability Advice and Information team, the postholder will undertake the effective delivery of advice and information provision for disabled people living in Edinburgh, East Lothian, Midlothian and West Lothian.

The service provides welfare benefits advice, with much focus on disability-related benefits, as well as information on a variety of disability-related topics. Through our Cost-of-Living Support Service, we also provide welfare benefits advice and support, and deliver information workshops to help improve disabled people’s financial wellbeing and stability.

We empower disabled people to understand and access their rights and welfare benefit entitlements and to maximise their household income as much as possible.

The postholder will provide information on benefits, undertake full benefit checks to assess an individual’s eligibility, provide full support with completing benefit applications and any follow-up support an individual requires.

The postholder will also co-design and co-deliver the cost-of-living information workshops.

LCiL utilises a rights-based approach to strategy and service delivery. Our advice, information and support services proactively promote and work to protect the human rights of disabled people and their carers. By working alongside others, we increase the ability of those with responsibility for fulfilling rights to recognise and know how to implement those rights, and make sure they can be held to account.

The postholder will contribute to the ongoing development of LCiL as we deliver and grow person-led, innovative, and high-quality services that are informed and shaped by the voices, the experiences, rights and capabilities of disabled people and their carers.

LCiL is currently developing a three-year strategic plan.

We want applicants to succeed with an application to join LCiL.

To help, we will provide the interview questions in advance to all shortlisted candidates.

We want to hear about all the skills and experience applicants can bring to this role. The ability to ‘think on your feet’ can be useful but it is not always a primary function of a role. We believe it helps to be able to sit with information and take time to think through responses, examples, skills and experience, so applicants can bring the best of themselves to an interview.
