Job reference: SC CG

Area: City of Edinburgh
Working pattern: Part-time
Closing date: Open
Rate of pay: £14.18 per hour & £106.11 per sleepover

I am a young Autistic Woman, former Paralympian, and Special Olympics GB World Champion in Swimming. I am still active in teaching other disabled people to swim, and I attend Garvald Edinburgh Day Service 5 days per week at present. The aim of the role is to support me and my family to enable me to attend my day service in the morning, make me feel safe and reduce anxiety. There are additional opportunities for the right person to also support me at weekends to allow me to live independently, but attend social activities either 1 – 1, or with my boyfriend. This could include a full weekend by arrangement were payment of up to £736.11 is possible.

Permanent contract and paid annual leave, rewarding job experience. Zero hours for support and weekend work as required.

I have Autism and Global Learning Disability, so it is essential for me to have someone who can keep me calm and safe and avoid me becoming anxious or not aware of what is going on. My interests are wide and varied, so please see my Job Description for further details.

In the mornings Monday to Friday, I require support to get up and sometimes help with my personal care, washing and dressing, help with my breakfast and medications, and ensuring I am ready for my transport pick up for 08.20. Wait and chat with me and ensure I safely get on my taxi or bus. There may be some light housework to complete for me which can include dishes and ensuring my room is tidy.

I am looking for someone who has experience of working with Autistic Adults and families, however someone with a “can do” attitude and is willing to learn is more important to me.

Essential criteria: friendly, approachable, dependable, calm and compassionate, patient with me with a good sense of humour, and who will respect my choices and independence is essential. Cooking skills would be an advantage but not essential. Qualifications are not essential, but this post may be of interest to a person wanting to start a career as a PA or health care professional or broaden experience of Autism and Learning Disability in Adults.

I also have two very lively Springer Spaniels; these are my pets, and they help me stay calm knowing they are around me. So, it is essential that any candidate is comfortable around two lively dogs, who can be quite noisy when someone approaches the house. They do settle and will soon become your best friend.

The post holder will be required to have PVG membership.

Female candidates only please, this is a Genuine Occupational Requirement.
