Job reference: LRM IMC

Area: City of Edinburgh
Working pattern: Full-time | Part-time
Closing date: June 19, 2020

Temporary position; paid annual leave

Closing date: 19 June 2020

Personal Assistant required from 29 June 2020 onwards to help a young adult with learning disability living in the family home, chiefly with favourite activities/outings, some personal care, basic physio and education built into daily activities.

Interests include: jigsaws, singing and dancing to favourite TV show themes, playing with the family dog (a very tolerant Labradoodle), storybooks, football in the garden, learning my new words, trips to the park and recycling, organising my large collections of DVDs and pictures!

Driver with own car would be ideal as we are in Balerno but otherwise we are located 8 minute walk from the 44 bus route.

Hours: 6-8 hours daily, flexible according to availability

Shifts: Minimum three, preferably five per week over school holidays and ad hoc through school closures. We hope to employ one person for six weeks + but are prepared to look at minimum two week blocks for candidates with extensive experience.

Essential criteria: Must have previous experience of learning disability and/or autism.  Given current safety concerns, we are reliant on the candidate(s) honouring social distancing measures in their own personal time in order to minimise risk to all parties. We have always regarded and treated our support workers as extended family, this is even more pertinent at present with regard to safety.

Flexibility is key both ways as shifts may vary to meet employer’s needs and candidate’s availability. Ideally we will have one personal assistant for all six weeks plus but will consider applications for a block of two weeks minimum where the candidate has experience.

Candidates must be reliable & trustworthy, conscientious, patient, friendly and easy-going, empathic, punctual, good communication skills and have a sense of humour, be non-judgmental, flexible and energetic.

Note: The post is subject to successful PVG Scheme check and if you are not a member you will be asked to join before formal offer could be made.
