Summary

As a Personal Assistant (PA), your role is to enable your employer, a disabled gentleman and powerchair-user in his early 30s, to be as independent as possible, supporting him with social, recreational and career-related activities, as well as personal care and domestic tasks.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist your employer with social, recreational and career-related activities, including driving his Wheelchair Accessible Van (WAV).
  • Assist your employer with cleaning, laundry and food shopping.
  • Assist your employer with eating, drinking, preparing and cooking meals.
  • Assist your employer with toileting, showering and dressing.
  • Assist your employer with remaining comfortable in bed overnight.
  • Assist your employer with going on holiday, both in the UK and abroad (with your prior agreement).

Skills & Personal Qualities

  • Enthusiastic, outgoing and positive attitude is essential.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
  • Excellent time-management and organisational skills are essential.
  • Ability to follow your employer’s instructions and respect his wishes is essential.
  • Driving licence valid in the UK is essential (unless working evening or night shift).
  • Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme membership is essential.
  • Previous experience supporting a disabled person is preferred but not essential.
  • Knowledge of the Social Model of Disability is preferred but not essential.

Additional Information

  • Opportunity open to both male and female applicants who hold a driving licence valid in the UK (unless working evening or night shifts).
  • Employment is dependent upon the successful completion of a paid trial period with training.
  • Staff room is available for taking rest breaks or supporting your employer overnight.
  • Rota is provided six or more weeks in advance.
