I am seeking support for my 94 year old father who has a diagnosis of dementia and who currently lives with me. The purpose of the post is to provide befriending in order to help manage / alleviate carer stress while I continue to support my dad in my own home for as long as possible.
Support will initially be required in the home by someone who can engage with my father to build up a meaningful and trusted relationship. My father is passionate about amateur boxing, a sport that he used to practice and be talented all his life. He also enjoys football while supporting Hibernian.
My father has no insight of his dementia condition and has a hearing impairment, the applicant will therefore require knowledge, experience of this condition in order to build up a rapport while valuing dignity and respect. Good interpersonal skills are essential such a friendly approach, good listening skills, understanding and patience.
Hours and rate of pay:
The position is for befriending my dad, 15 hours per week maximum which can be negotiated, mostly afternoons and week days. The rate of pay is £10 per hour.
