The aim of the job is to provide assistance required by the employer, a disabled child.

 

A Personal Assistant is employed to help my son live his life as smoothly as possible. Getting the right assistance when he needs it allows him to lead his life independently as possible. A Personal Assistant will enable him to do this by listening to what he wants helping him life safely. It is therefore vital that an employee has good communication and listening skills.

 

The job involves assisting him with a variety of tasks. Typically this will involve PC first thing and help getting him fed and ready for school.

 

After a period of familiarisation with the duties, you will be required to assist him with the following tasks, sometimes without close supervision. PC and dressing first thing, eating breakfast and taking his oral medication, getting ready for school. The post holder will therefore need to be able to work on their own initiative whilst at the same time be respectful of his wishes.

 

The job involves moving and assisting. Experience in helping a child move is desirable. You do not have to be strong to do the job well but general good health is important.

 

The job requires providing assistance with the following:

 

Personal Tasks

  • Assistance getting in and out of bed.
  • Assistance with showering / bathing.
  • Assistance with dressing and undressing.
  • Assistance with teeth.
  • Assistance with toileting.
  • Assistance with eating and drinking.
  • Assistance with medication.

Social Tasks

  • Assistance when going out for a walk.
  • Assistance with other leisure activities e.g. board-games, music, reading.

 

Other Tasks

  • Assistance to maintain upkeep of equipment e.g. wheelchairs.
  • Any other reasonable task.

 

I am looking for a Personal Assistant who is friendly and approachable with a good sense of humour. They must be reliable, trustworthy and punctual. It is important that an employee is aware of and sensitive to my son’s needs. As a Personal Assistant is required to work one-to one, it is important that the employer and employee maintain an open and honest relationship.

 

The Post

The rate of pay is £11.50

The post is for 10 hours per week and the shifts will be Monday to Friday 7am-8.15am, and Thursday + Sunday 7-8.30pm
