Job reference: LS WN EL

Area: East Lothian
Working pattern: Part-time
Closing date: Open
Rate of pay: £11.00

Looking for a male Personal Assistant to support a 14 year old boy in Tranent who is both profoundly deaf, is virtually non-verbal and has autism.  Although there is a need to support the boy with personal care tasks a key aspect of the job is to be both a mentor to the lad and to help him get out and enjoy himself, whilst supporting him to acquire daily living skills.   He has a great sense of humor and is full of fun, joy and silliness. He enjoys shopping for things for himself, Xbox and ROBLOX, museums, cinema, parks, bus journeys, burgers and gadgets. You need to be willing to help him to actively participate in activities run by Deaf Action.

I am looking for someone who is an effective communicator and is trained to BSL level 2 or its equivalent.  Some experience of working with people with autism and the ability to manage “melt downs” would be preferable.  It would be useful for the postholder to have a full driving license valid in the UK (driving expenses within work would be paid.)

It is essential that the postholder can offer a degree of flexibility as to when they are available to work.  Also must be a member of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme or is willing to join.

The post will mainly occur at weekends or during school holidays for full or half days.

Rate of pay is £11 per hour.
