Job reference: DB WN ML

Area: Midlothian
Working pattern: Part-time
Closing date: Open
Rate of pay: £10.40 per hour

Looking for enthusiastic, support workers to work with a polite, mannerly young man who has autism and learning difficulties and lives in Penicuik.  You will be required to provide support in order to allow him to pursue his leisure activities.

These will mainly involve taking him regularly to travelling funfairs, (accompanying him at all times, although you don’t have to accompany him on rides) He also likes to go to the leisure pools in Coatbridge and Dunbar, and he likes to go on long walks.

Experience of autism would be a huge advantage but not entirely necessary.  You must be open and friendly, committed & reliable, with a good sense of humour. You must be keen to learn how his autism affects him. Once you get to know him, he is a very rewarding young man to work with.

You would be required on one or two evenings during the week, and occasional weekends.  The hours of work are flexible, however will mostly be weekday evenings.  Must be flexible re times – usually start time is 6pm, but sometimes earlier, depending on where he is going.  Finish time is around 10 pm.  Punctuality is essential!

There are opportunities to increase your hours over holiday periods when his day placement is closed. There may also be the option to support this young man on short breaks/holidays to theme parks within the UK.

A car driver is absolutely essential. Must have own car or access to a car.

Rate of pay is £10.40 per hour. Mileage reimbursed at £0.45 per mile.
