Some people who have mental health issues and live alone in the community do not have a carer at all, be it a relative, partner or friend. Some feel that being a self-carer means that the care and support they receive might not be adequate. This is especially true when people are faced with a crisis or when they go home after a stay at the Royal Edinburgh Hospital.
Community Voices has worked with Linda Irvine, Mental Health Strategic Manager, to explore these issues and find solutions. We are hoping to get together people who identify as self-carers and mental health, social care and voluntary sector professionals to discuss how things can be improved and inform how services support self-carers
