The post

We are looking for an energetic, responsible and caring individual to assist with our boys; our 11 year old son has Down’s Syndrome & Autism. He has some speech, and also understands and uses Makaton/Signalong signs.
We require someone lively and responsible with children, able to take our sons out and about when possible, or to engage in active games, playing music or facilitating board games and crafts at home. When Edinburgh is not in ‘lockdown’, some regular activities they enjoy are swimming at the Commonwealth Pool, soft play, trampolining at Gravity, swing parks, going to The Botanic Gardens or The Yard.
The job will usually be on Saturday mornings, starting from the 1st week in March. This will be 4 hours per week but there may be more hours available, particularly in the school holidays. Overnights occasionally are also required.
The rate of pay is £9.77 per hour.
Experience of working with children is important, and experience working with a child with learning disabilities is desirable. Knowledge of Makaton or Sign Along is useful, but not essential.

MMT 1, Female Personal Assistant required to work in Longniddry
Rate of pay is £11 per hour.
A Female Personal Assistant (PA) is needed to provide personal care and support for an active and mobile 82 year old lady with dementia. Mary has a lively personality and enjoys music, singing and meeting people but needs help with eating, dressing and toileting and for getting out of the house or go for walks and other activities.
The PA should have experience of caring; be friendly and approachable and have a good sense of humour, as well as being reliable, trustworthy and punctual and should be educated to secondary level; be able to communicate clearly; be able to work without close supervision; be a good organiser; have management skills; good interpersonal and negotiation skills; be a creative problem-solver, have advocacy skills and be aware of the need for risk management for the elderly.
In addition, the PA should have experience and understanding of person-centred work with dementia sufferers. They should be flexible, non-judgemental, be able to recognise work and personal boundaries, be a team worker who enjoys a challenge and be persistent in carrying out the allocated tasks and achieving the goals. They should have experience of lifting and handling.
It is essential that the postholder be a driver and have the use of a car. It would be advantageous if the postholder lived in East Lothian or was within easy traveling distance of Longniddry.
The post involves working a total of 14 hours per week, with additional opportunities to cover staff Sickness and Annual Leave and an increase in hours as they become available. Shifts to be negotiated.

AH WN EL, Personal Assistants (PA) required
Rate of pay is £10.50 per hour.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for one or two PA to work with and support a young person with autism who lives with her family in North Berwick.
The role will be wide and varied, details of which are outlined in the job description.
Above all else it will be important that the successful candidate(s) establishes a good rapport with the young person and their family. Experience of working with young people with autism is desirable but not essential. A willingness to learn techniques that work well for individuals with autism is key. It is however essential that the post-holder has a general interest in music. The postholder could be required to drive the young person’s motability car so a clean full driving license would be useful but not essential.
There are 25 hours per week to either be shared by two PA or given to one PA. Hours will be flexible and will be negotiated with the successful candidate(s). please state in your application the minimum and maximum hours you would be willing to take.
