This legal requirement is being put into place by the Government to get as many people as possible to start putting money into a pension to save for their retirement. The Pension Regulator will send letters about pension auto enrolment to all employers. They will also check that employers are following the law. Any employer who does not follow the law will face heavy fines. If any of your employees qualify for pension auto enrolment they will have to make payments into their own individual pension pot direct from their wages. For all of your employees who qualify you too will have to make contributions to their pension pot. What will you have to do? You must by law: Step 1 Choose and register with a pension provider Step 2 Tell all your employees: what auto enrolment will mean for them which pension provider you have chosen where they can find out more information For your employees who qualify and will be automatically enrolled into your pension scheme, or for those who can choose to opt into your scheme, you must: tell them when they will start to pay into their pension pot make a payment into the pension pots of your qualifying employees (we expect that your Local Authority will allow you to use your Direct Payment/Individual Budget to cover these costs. They may provide more funding to cover these costs if you need it). Step 3 Send the total payments due from you and your employees to your pension provider each month and on time. Step 4 Every time, before you pay your employees, you need to check if they qualify for auto enrolment or qualify to opt in. If they do you need to tell them what this means for them. Step 5 Fill in a form for the Pension Regulator giving your details, details of the pension provider you have registered with, number of your employees etc. This allows the Pension Regulator to see you have met your legal requirements. But dont worry LCIL can help you with all this as part of our payroll service!
