- Living Choices: Direct Payments & Independent Living Courses
LCiL offer 3 courses to meet different training requirements. They are each made up of a series of linked sessions, covering a range of relevant topics, which equip participants with the information and skills to make choices about Independent Living.
These are as follows:
Living Choices:
Direct Payments and Independent Living for Disabled People
The aim of the course is to:
- Offer practical advice and useful information on Direct Payments and Independent Living issues which will enable participants to have a realistic idea of what is involved in managing their own support package
- Ensure that participants are aware of the methods of support available to them when accessing Direct Payments
Please Note: Each session can be run as a course in its own right, but we encourage people to attend all sessions in order to gain as much information as possible.
Independent Living & Direct Payments for Disabled People consists of the following sessions
- Equality Matters
- The Needs of Independence
- Getting the Right Assessment (an introduction to funding for Independent Living)
- Turning Assessment into Practice
- Recruitment
- Becoming an Employer
This course would suit Disabled People interested in exploring what their Independent Living options are.
Making Living Choices
Independent Living & Direct Payments for People with Learning Difficulties
The course runs over 6 sessions. It has been put together to help people with learning difficulties think about Independent Living and the choices they have. (Remember - Independent Living does not always mean moving away from home.)
The course aims to help people:
- Find out what Direct Payments are and how they can be used
- Think about the options and what's right for them
- Find out what they would need to do to be able to use Direct Payments
Making Living Choices looks at the following topics:
Getting it started:
- Making decisions/Speaking out for yourself
- What are Direct Payments?
Getting it sorted:
- Self assessment, what is it?
- Show me the Money!
Getting it straight:
- Thinking of getting a PA
- Thinking about being a Boss
This course would suit People with Learning Difficulties who would like to think about the choices they have and how having a Direct Payment could help.
Living Choices:
Supporting Independence
Direct Payments for parents, carers guardians etc
This course is made up of a series of sessions, covering a range of relevant topics, which will enable people who are supporting disabled people or children to manage a Direct Payment on their behalf.
The aim of the course is to:
- Offer practical information and advice to people who would be managing a Direct Payment on someone else's behalf, as well as exploring their role within this
- Ensure people managing the Direct Payment are aware of the support system they can access
Supporting Independence covers the following topics:
- Equality Matters and the Needs of Independence
- Getting the Right Assessment
- Turning Assessment into Practice
- Recruitment
- Becoming an Employer
- Risk and Advocacy Matters
This course would suit people who want to find out more about Direct Payments and what's involved in managing them on someone else's behalf.
