The aims of LCiL's training service are to:

  • Create learning opportunities where Disabled people can feel comfortable and supported.
  • Encourage Disabled People to develop their self awareness and self confidence.
  • Support Disabled People who want to gain information and practical skills with regard to becoming a PA employer
  • Support existing Disabled Employers to want to access courses to develop specific skills

  • Personal Assistance is available at training sessions
  • Travel costs will be met / transport can be arranged
  • Training sessions take place in accessible venues
  • Training sessions are generally half-day (only 3 hours in total) or a short full day (only 4 - 5 hours in total)
  • Training sessions are free

Training Calendar 2010/11

LCiL has not as yet secured the necessary funding to enable us to plan our regular Learning Opportunities for Disabled People training programme for the coming year.

However, we are still actively pursuing possible sources of funding and will keep service users and interested parties informed of progress.

LCiL's training programme usually includes a range of courses which give information about Independent Living and Direct Payments, encourage personal development and confidence building, and support disabled employers to develop relevant practical skills. (See below for last year's programme)

*Update Janaury 2010*

We still have no confirmation of a Learning Opportunities Programme, however, we are currently developing and piloting an exciting new training project called Choice for All.

This project will allow us to offer flexible, individualised training on using and managing a Self-directed support package, to a small number of people with learning difficulties who would benefit from a one-to-one learning approach.

The training is suitable for those who want to find out about Independent Living and Self-directed support: whether you are just at the stage of thinking about using Direct Payments to employ their own support staff or to contract an agency, or are already in the process of receiving a Direct Payment. (Please note: this training will not be appropriate for those who are simply looking to use a Direct Payment to buy back their existing service.)

Please contact Training for more information or to register interest in taking part in Choice for All.
