Lothian Centre for Integrated Living Inclusion & independence for disabled people

Payroll Service

A user's guide.

Lothian Centre for Integrated Living operates a payroll service for people employing their own personal assistants. This service is run by the Administrator at the Centre.

How does it work?

  • You complete time sheets for each of your employees on a monthly basis and send these to LCIL.
  • LCIL prepares the monthly payroll for each of your employees, including working out tax and national insurance deductions.
  • LCIL also works out any Statutory Sick Pay or Statutory Maternity Pay where required.
  • LCIL will provide you with pay slips for each employee every month.
  • LCIL will inform you of the amount due to the Inland Revenue each month, and will forward your cheque to them if you wish.

Anything else?

If you wish LCIL will:

  • register you as an employer with the Inland Revenue.
  • prepare your Year End returns for the Inland Revenue. We will also deal with all other statutory records, i.e. P45s, P46s, tax codings e.t.c.
  • deal with all the statutory agencies on your behalf - the Inland Revenue, the Contributions Agency.
  • advise you about setting up bank transfers to your employee's accounts.

What does it cost?

There is in initial set up fee of £30. This is a one-off payment, and not an annual one.

The ongoing cost of the service is £7 per payslip per month (ie if you have three employees, it will cost £21 per month).

These costs are reviewed annually in December.

These costs cover all postage, printing and stationery.

What do I have to do?

  • Contact LCIL and speak to the Administrator.
  • She will send you further information about the service.
  • If you are interested, she will then meet with you to discuss how it works.
  • If you decide to go ahead the Administrator will advise you of what you have to do and when.

Support Service

You will receive an information pack which gives you information on:

  • what LCIL will do for you
  • what information you need to provide to LCIL
  • what to do when you hire new employees and when an employee leaves
  • how Inland Revenue payments are calculated
  • how to complete time sheets

LCIL runs a free information day once a year for all payroll users. This day gives added information about payroll related topics.
