SDS Personal Assistant Employment Roadshows
Want to know more about Personal Assistant Employment through self-directed support? Sign up for a PA Employment Roadshow event. The events are funded by the Scottish Government and the invitation is open to prospective PAs/PA Employers, Local Authority workers and anyone interested in knowing more about the pros and cons of this option. Workshops will be available to everyone on the day, including a workshop run by UNISON and Glasgow Centre for Inclusive Living on the rights and responsibilities of PAs. There will also be a workshop for Local Authority reps as well as a general Q&A session at the end. LCiL AGM and SDS user guide - join us and have your say!
The Self Directed Support (Scotland) Act gained Royal Assent on 10 January this year. The Act will quite radically change the way people eligible for care/support will be offered a package of support. Scottish Government is currently writing guidance for Councils on how to implement these new statutory duties, and preparing a practical User’s Guide to what the new Act will mean for people eligible for care/support. After our AGM, on Monday 18 March 2013, we invite you to an event to gather your opinions and ideas about what should included in the User’s Guide. We will collect your comments and pass them on to the people in the Scottish Government who are working on the guide. Whether you attend our AGM at 15.15 for 15.30, come for the consultation event at 16.30, or stay on for the buffet at 18.00, we would love to see you! Places are limited, so please book early. Please note that this course is also ILA Scotland Accredited! The topics covered include: -develop participants’ understanding of disability as an equality issue (including an exploration of up to date perceptions and perspectives of disability) -and look in more depth at areas such as the difference between a PA and a carer, -Confidentiality for PAs, Relationship Boundaries, Dilemmas, Worries and Concerns that PAs may have and explore ideas how they can feel more supported when being a PA. Help shape the future of the Independent Living Fund in Scotland
Independent Living in Scotland project (ILiS) is hosting two short seminars so that disabled people can make suggestions on the future of the Independent Living Fund in Scotland. The UK Government plans to close the Independent Living Fund. In England, they want to give the money to local authorities to use for the care and support of disabled people. The Scottish Government will launch a formal consultation about their plans in spring 2013. This is your chance to influence what goes into the consultation by offering your ideas and suggestions on what should be consulted and what issues need to be taken into account. The discussions will be led by Sally Witcher OBE, an independent Public Policy Consultant. Where and when? Living Well in Later Life Information Day
Are you an older person living in Edinburgh who could do with a bit of extra help? Or do you know or care for someone who does? Come along to this free Live Well in Later Life information day at the Assembly Rooms at 54 George Street on Tuesday 27 November 2012. There will be people there from the Council, NHS and voluntary services who will be able to talk to you about the services that they provide for older people. Drop in any time between 11am and 6pm. Information/Discussion Session for Employers of PAs
LCiL have had the opportunity to liaise with the Edinburgh Trades Union Council (ETUC) to bring to PA Employers a free information session on the right of employees to become a member of a Union, how to manage this and how it could be a demonstration of a good employer practice. A free event for people affected by mental health issues. There will be information on services, self-help and educational packs avaliable and opportunities to speak with workers who can answer your questions. Building Self-Directed Support Capacity in Local Mental Health Organisations
Launch Event 27th August 2012: Grand Central Hotel, Glasgow Places avaialble for mental health service users. The project is going to work with third sector mental health service providers and people who use or might use SDS to meet their social care needs. Funded by the Scottish Government it is hoped this will identify and address the challenges with SDS and mental health. In some cases this will mean using direct payments to purchase services, but it will also include using the other self-directed support options. Self-directed support (Scotland) Bill Consultation Event
The Scottish Government are bringing out a draft Bill for self-directed support in Scotland. This could change the way THAT people receive social care in Scotland. The Bill aims to make the current system (including direct payments) more available, more modern and more accessible to more disabled people. The Bill also aims to enable self-directed support for carers in specific circumstances. The Scottish Government want to hear what disabled people think about the Bill. The Mobility Roadshow!
The 4th Mobility Roadshow Scotland takes place at the Royal Highland Centre near Edinburgh on Friday 17th and Saturday 18th September 2010 from 10am-5pm. Changes to Blue Badge Scheme? Have your say. The Scottish Government is carrying out a consultation on reforming the Blue Badge Scheme. We want to hear your views on these proposals. I have found it useful over the years to hear other employer\'s experiences of things that work well, and sometimes not so well. We tend to keep the meeting quite informal, a cuppa and a biscuit, and a chance to share experiences and ask questions from other people who employ PAs. Please do let LCiL know if you intend coming. The Scottish Government is bringing out a new Self-Directed Support Strategy and Bill in Scotland. They want to look at Direct Payments and make sure disabled people have the chance to access Direct Payments if they want to. The Scottish Government want to hear what disabled people think about Direct Payments. This is your opportunity to influence the direction the Scottish Government takes in the future. Independent Living Scotland
Independent Living Scotland is a free event that takes place on the 9th and 10th September at the SECC Glasgow. Over 120 exhibiting companies will be at the event showcasing thousands of products to aid independent living including stairlifts, mobility scooters, adapted vehicles, walk in showers, sensory products, equipment for children and daily living aids. The Department for Work and Pensions will be there to offer advice on available benefits, as well as BT & Sky who will be showcasing their accessible services for the elderly and disabled. This 2 day event is aimed at healthcare professionals (occupational therapists, physiotherapists, carers) and members of the public of all ages with a disability or special needs. Choosing Scotlands Future: A National Conversation: Public Event With The First Minister Of Scotlan
The Scottish Governments Cabinet is holding 5 meetings in venues across Scotland this summer. As part of this programme the First Minister and the Cabinet will take part in a National Conversation public meeting to discuss Scotlands constitutional future. The event will begin with a speech from the First Minister then a question and answer session which will provide the opportunity to question Ministers on issues about Scotland’s constitutional future. Refreshments will be available from 11.30 am, but in any case it would be helpful if you could aim to arrive by 11.45 pm. Lunch will be available at the conclusion of the event at 1.30 pm. Free Direct Payments and Independent Living Information Session
Are you a disabled person living in East Lothian? Do you want to learn more about your right to manage your own support? Then come along to LCIL\'s free Direct Payments and Independent Living Information Session on 11th June 2009, from 1.15-4pm at the Tynepark Centre in Haddington. The Information Session will include a talk on the Disabled People\'s Movement, the Independent Living Movement, Direct Payments and Self Directed Support - giving disabled people more choice and control over their lives. There will also be a showing of the \'Living Life to the Full\' video about disabled people\'s experiences of using Direct Payments. Try a Bus Day
Following on from the very successful Try a Bus Day in 2007 ECAS are pleased to announce that they are returning to Ocean Terminal for Try a Bus Day 2009 on Tuesday, 9 June 2009 from 10am to 4pm. The event is for anyone who wants to improve their confidence or to find out more about facilities on buses and trams for disabled people. There will be buses from Lothian, First & Stagecoach and there will be a tram mock-up. Scottish Ministers Consultation with Disabled People
Scottish Ministers are bound by the public sector duty to actively engage with disabled people when setting their policy priorities. A consultation meeting has been set up to provide an opportunity for disabled people to enter into a dialogue with senior civil servants to ensure that the focus of the public sector duties is correct, or to adjust them accordingly. This is your chance to help shape future Government policy so please take it! An agenda/more information for the meeting will be available soon. Your Call is LCiL\'s pilot national telephone counselling service for disabled people in Scotland. This free service is delivered by professionally qualified disabled volunteer counsellors.
